Hitchens is right - he is not as important to German literary history as he thinks he is. His "signifigence" was just created by the controlled mass-media since the bastard-republic-Germany had to reinvent german literature from scraps after the allied "liberators" had cleansed our librarys from everything truly German. Brecht, Grass, Mann, Fallada, Kästner, Hanke, Jelinek, Bernhard, Fried, Roth, Friedell, Wolf, Heym and many other marxist-bolshevic and hebrew writers were pushed forward and celebrated as literary geniouses.
