Cioran on the Jews [2]

In a metaphysical sense the Jews are outside of humanity. I’m reminded here of Voltaire’s observation: “The Jew is the enemy of mankind.”

Taken from An Infamous Past: E.M. Cioran and the Rise of Fascism in Romania:

First and foremost, however, in Cioran’s opinion the Jews deserved to be blamed for their attitude toward nationhood, their opposition to any national movement. Thus in crucial moments they inevitably became ‘traitors.’ In Romania, for instance, ‘The Jews…have always opposed any attempt meant to consolidate our nation and our political system.’ Hence the antagonistic conflict: ‘The Jews do not wish to live in a strong Romania, aware of its own identity. As Romanians, we desire nothing but a strong Romania, with a will to power.’ In support of his accusations, Cioran quotes the words of a Jew who told him that ‘to him it did not matter whether Romania lost Transylvania or kept it.’ This sort of attitude illustrated ‘an obvious but deliberately concealed position of the Jews.’ ‘If we were to give absolute freedom to the Jews,’ Cioran declares, ‘I firmly believe they would change even the name of the country in less then a year.’

The Transfiguration [of Romania]…also includes Cioran’s reflections on a possible solution to the Jewish question. For him, a fight against the Jews was a symptom indicating the ‘health’ of the national organism.

    Yes, absolutely — antisemitism is a healthy and natural response by the native ethnic majority to reclaim power and influence from a hostile and rootless minority. Sounds more like ‘democracy’ rather than ‘fascism’ to me.

    In addiction to being healthy, mass ‘antisemitism’ is a form of idealism too, a sort of national immune system response against an invasive and potentially deadly pathogen once it has reached a critical level.

    Throughout the past few centuries Jewry has often been thought of as a sort of contagious disease or pathogen; and the imagery was cleverly revived in the 20th Century —> http://www.white-history.com/hwr64iv_files/nazi_propaganda.jpg. It’s a good analogy.
