The Times (Britain)

Some of America’s most senior military commanders are prepared to resign if the White House orders a military strike against Iran, according to highly-placed defense and intelligence sources. Tension in the Gulf region has raised fears that an attack on Iran is becoming increasingly likely before President George Bush leaves office. The Sunday Times has learnt that up to five generals and admirals are willing to resign rather than approve what they consider would be a reckless attack.

Israel Seeks All Clear for Iran Air Strike
The Telegraph (Britain)

Israel is negotiating with the United States for permission to fly over Iraq as part of a plan to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Daily Telegraph can reveal. To conduct surgical air strikes against Iran’s nuclear programme, Israeli war planes would need to fly across Iraq. But to do so the Israeli military authorities in Tel Aviv need permission from the Pentagon. A senior Israeli defence official said negotiations were now underway between the two countries for the US-led coalition in Iraq to provide an “air corridor” in the event of the Israeli government deciding on unilateral military action to prevent Teheran developing nuclear weapons.

Despite the Bush administration’ s insistence it has no plans to go to war with Iran, a Pentagon panel has been created to plan a bombing attack that could be implemented within 24 hours of getting the go-ahead from President George W. Bush, The New Yorker magazine reported in its latest issue. The special planning group was established within the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in recent months, according to an unidentified former U.S. intelligence official cited in the article by investigative reporter Seymour Hersh in the March 4 issue.

In the past few months, as the situation in Iraq has deteriorated, the Bush Administration, in both its public diplomacy and its covert operations, has significantly shifted its Middle East strategy. The “redirection,” as some inside the White House have called the new strategy, has brought the United States closer to an open confrontation with Iran and, in parts of the region, propelled it into a widening sectarian conflict between Shiite and Sunni Muslims. To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East.

Six persons are on trial in Germany for burning copies of The Diary of Ann Frank. One suspect admitted to burning the book during his trial. All six defendants are charged with inciting racial hatred and disparaging the dead … According to prosecutors, Lars Konrad of East Germany threw the novel into a bon fire during a party in June 2006. The Korea Times (Korea)

The Simon Wiesenthal Center denounced the broad use of classic anti-Semitism by one of Korea’s leading authors, Professor Lee Won-bok, in a book from his series, “Monnara Iunnara” (Distant Countries and Neighboring Countries) … The series studies countries in a comic book format and for the last 20 years has sold over 10 million copies to young Koreans. “The images in question in Monnara Iunnara echo classic Nazi canards like those found in Der Sturmer and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion by recycling various Jewish conspiracies like Jewish control of the media and money… ,” ccharged Rabbi Abraham Cooper, an associate dean at the Wiesenthal Center …

Author of ‘Anti-Semitic’ Korean Comic Responds to Critics

The author of a best-selling comic book series intended to teach children about other countries said Monday he would change a chapter on Jews that has been called anti-Semitic and similar to Nazi propaganda. Rhie Won-bok maintained, however, that his depiction of Jewish control of American media and politics was based on fact and “commonly believed.” “The Jews are the invisible force that controls the U.S.,” Rhie, a professor of visual arts at Duksung Women’s University in Seoul, told The Associated Press. “I wrote the chapter to let people know that you can’t understand the U.S. without knowing the Jewish community.”

Honest Broker: Carter’s Book Stirs a Critical Debate
Philip Weiss — The American Conservative

Since the publication last November of Jimmy Carter’s book, Palestine: Peace not Apartheid, his critics have pretty much held the floor … But the fury has masked a quieter trend — nodding support for the president’s views across the country … For the first time since the State of Israel was created in 1948, a prominent American politician has publicly taken up the cause of the Arabs, describing Israel’s practices as oppressive. Such voices are common in Europe and in Israel itself. But they are uncommon here, where staunchly Zionist voices routinely assert that Israeli and American interests are identical, a view uniformly reflected in our politics and policies.

Don’t Ignore Putin’s Warning

There is growing irritation in the European Union and NATO — what former U.S. National Security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski cruelly terms “America’s vassal states” — at being brusquely ordered about by Washington and told to send troops to Iraq and Afghanistan. Many Western Europeans are starting to long for the Cold War days and old bi-polar world order. No one loves Russia, but many Europeans say a strong Russia — and China — are necessary to restrain some of America’s more overly assertive or unwise instincts.

Triple-Exthnics: Jews in the American Porn Industry
Jewish Quarterly
http://www.jewishqu arterly.org/ article.asp ?articleid=38
A story little told is that of Jews in Hollywood’s seedier cousin, the adult film industry. Perhaps we’d prefer to pretend that the ‘triple-exthnics’ didn’t exist, but there’s no getting away from the fact that secular Jews have played (and still continue to play) a disproportionate role throughout the adult film industry in America. Jewish involvement in pornography has a long history in the United States, as Jews have helped to transform a fringe subculture into what has become a primary constituent of Americana… Though Jews make up only two percent of the American population, they have been prominent in pornography.

Do the Principles of the Nuremberg Trials Apply Today?
Chris Leithner
http://www.lewrockw ell.com/orig8/ leithner1. html
…In September 2004, Kofi Annan told the BBC: “the US-led invasion of Iraq was an illegal act that contravened the UN Charter.” If so, then the question arises: should Anglo-American politicians and their top civilian and military aides be prosecuted for their repeated violations over the years of the very laws devised in order to punish Nazis after the Second World War? Do the precedents established at Nuremberg apply to American and British officials? … If, on the same basis the Big Four employed to try Nazis at Nuremberg, the leading members of the American, Australian and British governments and armed forces were tried for actions taken in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in recent years, they might well be convicted.
