The New York investment giant Goldman Sachs paid him $650,000 for four speeches … The former president in 2005 helped the U.S. arm of Israel’s treasury authority sell $101 million in investment bonds by speaking at a luncheon at the Pierre Hotel in New York that was jammed with real estate executives.. .

Not only is it not safe to be an American abroad, it is not tolerated! The majority of Americans I meet while traveling admit to the same lie as I do: “I am, uh… Canadian.” We deny our nationality to avoid the scowls, jeers, lectures, and sometimes violence from other foreigners. In the last six years, I have traveled to Africa twice, backpacked Southeast Asia and Central America and lived a brief time in Europe for a total of 12 different countries. Above all, one thing has been made very clear to me: The world hates us. And if the whole world hates our country, don’t you suppose we ought to figure out why?

Israel will ask the U.S. government to significantly increase its military assistance to the country as part of a new multi-year aid agreement. A high-level Israeli economic delegation led by Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer and Finance Ministry Director General Yarom Ariav will meet with an American team in Washington this week. The present package, which ends this year, covers $2.4 billion in annual military aid. Israel’s request comes due to the military challenges and restraints it will have to face in the upcoming years and the weakening dollar.

Since 1976, Israel has been the largest annual recipient of U.S. foreign assistance, and is the largest cumulative recipient since World War II. In addition to U.S. assistance, it is estimated that Israel receives about $1 billion annually through philanthropy, an equal amount through short- and long-term commercial loans, and around $1 billion in Israel Bonds proceeds.

Historians are closing in on the socio-economic and cultural factors in family downsizing, a trend also found in most of Western Europe… According to most census estimates, an American woman had on average seven to eight children in 1800. By 1900 the number dropped to about 3.5. That has fallen to slightly more than two today. Birth rates fell first in New England, and then among pioneers as they headed west. Internationally, France led the way to smaller families.

But this is an erroneous translation of what he said … Yet Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards, all beholden to the Israel lobby, have bought into Bush’s dangerous rhetoric about Iran … Bush probably won’t ask Congress to bless his Iran war. He will provoke a confrontation and then claim we have to fight back.

The neocons, who still reign supreme in Washington, are convinced that a rain of many hundreds of smart bombs on all the nuclear, military, governmental, and public installations in Iran could “do the job.” Their friends in Israel will applaud, since that would relieve Israel of the need to do something similar, if on a smaller scale. But an American and/or Israeli adventure would be a disaster. Bombs can devastate a country, but not a people like the Iranians. Only the wildest imagination can foresee how the more than a billion Muslims in scores of countries – including all our neighbors – would react to the destruction of a Muslim country (even a Shi’ite one). This is playing with fire, which may start a worldwide conflagration.

The tired assertion that America “supports democracy” in the Middle East is increasingly transparent. It was false 50 years ago, when we supported and funded the hated Shah of Iran to prevent nationalization of Iranian oil, and it’s false today when we back an unelected military dictator in Pakistan — just to name two examples. If honest democratic elections were held throughout the Middle East tomorrow, many countries would elect religious fundamentalist leaders hostile to the United States. Cliché or not, the Arab Street really doesn’t like America, so we should stop the charade about democracy and start pursuing a coherent foreign policy that serves America’s long- term interests…

Israeli Arab Group Proposes New ‘Multi-Cultural’ Constitution

A proposed constitution written by the Israeli Arab advocacy center, Adalah, states that Arab Knesset members will be able to bring about the disqualification of bills that impinge on the rights of Arabs, and classifies the State of Israel as a “bilingual and multicultural” country rather than a Jewish state. The proposal, entitled “The Democratic Constitution, ” also calls for majority and minority groups to split control of the government in such a way that will strengthen the Arab minority on issues relating to the character of the state.
