Many Americans, it seems, don’t like to hear themselves and their country criticized. Some think it is unpatriotic. Others think it clashes with the image of a special country of special people especially blessed by God. Well, at the risk of getting disapproval dumped on my head, let me say that reality doesn’t match the image. Our ancestors did not wrest this choice piece of real estate from the British, the French, the Spanish and the Native Americans by being a jolly little band of Goody-Two-Shoes.

… John McCain is a continuation of Bush. More attractive, probably more intelligent (which doesn’t mean much). But he is more of the same. The same policy - a dangerous mix of intoxication with power and simple-mindedness … Hillary is an extension of the entire present American political system, the present policy and the present routine. But the world needs another America … All three candidates have groveled at the feet of AIPAC. The fawning of all three before the Israeli leadership is disgusting. They all show a lack of integrity. But I know that they have no choice. That’s how it is in the USA.

Iranian state promotion of Holocaust denial is an example of anti-Semitism being used to generate anti-Zionism, the reverse of the normal dynamic. It has given a boost to Holocaust-denial activities worldwide. The growth of an antiglobalization, anti-imperialist political movement has created a political space on the Left in which Holocaust denial is no longer taboo, if framed in an anti-Zionist context. Mainstream Holocaust commemoration is increasingly under attack as a Zionist or imperialist tool.

I find nothing wrong with Israel defining itself as an ethnic national state, which it obviously does through the Law of Return and by stressing its Jewish national character. Jews have the same right to make such identitarian choices as Japanese, Serbs, Frenchmen or Germans. …. Clearly Jews outside of Israel have adopted a double standard about Jewish and gentile rights to national identity, but the Israeli government has not caused the problem … Ethnic whiners, Jewish and non-Jewish, get their way because they are dealing with demoralized Western nations, who accept the double standard imposed on them.

What Barack is saying here is that the resentment of black America is justified, but the resentment of white America is a myth manufactured and manipulated by the conservative commentariat.
