Russian activists join German comrades in protest against political oppression
NSNS Saturday, 23 August 2008
ST. PETERSBURG — Members of the Russian National Socialist
organization, Slavic Union (Slavyanskii Soyuz = SS), joined with
comrades from Germany’s National Democratic Party (NPD)
Saturday to protest political oppression in their two countries.
The joint action took place in six major cities of Russia and
Germany. The Russians demonstrated outside the German
embassy in Moscow as well as the German consulate in
St. Petersburg.
Key demands called for support of German and Russian
political prisoners, and the abolition of a medieval justice system
based on lies and trumped-up charges.
In St. Petersburg, several members of Slavic Union were arrested
before the protest began. The demonstration continued despite
the incident.
In Moscow officials attempted to ban a similar demonstration.
The Russian activists were successful, however, in presenting
their demands to Brose Eckhard, a German embassy official.
Among the placards carried by demonstrators were those with
these slogans: “Stop the shameful medieval trials in Germany!”
“Release all political prisoners!” “The German nation needs a
national consitution, not a code of laws of the Central Jewish
Council!” “Stop illegal alien settlement in the occupied territory
of Germany!” “Merkel? US-Israel über alles?”
