Now I may sound like a cynic on this issue (which I am absolutely not), but she was extremely lucky to still be alive, as many Sudetendeutsche did not survive the “liberation”. A similar behaviour as by the czechs was displayed by the polish, and by the “yugoslavs” (mainly the serbs). The Red Army, i.e. the Russians was equally evil. Where the Red Army moved in during combat, especially in the east, normally nobody they could get their hands on survived, rape just happening as a part of one’s death struggle. Where the Red Army moved in just as occupation force (i.e. regions which were “liberated” by e.g. the US Army and were then handed over to the Red Army), normally nobody came to death, but rape was still very common. Large parts of my family had to experience the Red Army, luckily in the latter type region.

In the mid-1980s I was slightly acquainted with a medical doctor in a small New Hampshire town who had come to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia. He was Czech. Once we were talking about the war. He said as the Germans were retreating and pulling out of Czechoslovakia there were heinous reprisals by Czechs against the local Germans. He was around 14 at the time. He told me he witnessed the following right after the German army left: a German couple was in the street with their toddler, going somewhere, when a Czech man suddenly appeared, grabbed the toddler, held him by the ankles, and by swinging him repeatedly, bashed his head against the brick wall of a building, quickly killing him. This doctor had seen that in the street.
Czechs are devious cowards by nature, the type of people who will kick you in the face while you’re defenceless and down and run away. It’s in their nature. That entire piece of shit of a “country” should’ve been completely obliterated by the Third Reich when it had the chance.
The problem the Germans have in the East is that they have criminally insane neighbours.

As to that film being taken in Austria, you haven’t provided any evidence beside to say that there’s a Route 78 in Austria, as if that precluded one being in the Czech Republic at the time she was filmed.
When Beneš, Czech president came back from exile in London, he aired through the radio the following message to the sadistic Chzech population “Take everything from the Germans, leave them only a handkerchief to weep into!”
You can imagine what happened next. I will just mention one of the most symbolic actions of the Czech, which was to round up the Germans in Prague and hang them from their feet, upside down, from lamp posts along the streets of the city. Then they were set on fire alive and let die in an extremely painful and horrible way, in honor of Beneš.
However, I never heard of anyone being brought to court for those horrible war crimes against civilian population.
Fritz Peter Habel, Eine politische Legende, Munich: Langen Müller, 1996, p. 18 mentions the following: the number of victims has been cited as 250,000. “Files from the SBZ/German Democratic Republic which were not accessible until 1990 showed that this figure was actually much higher and must now be set at no less than 460,000.”

This was not about revenge, but an ethnic cleansing, essentially a race war Slavs against Germans with the events around the end of WW2 being the culminating termination. This did not just “happen”, but was part of a strategy (incidentally, the same was done by the Polish).
The Sudetenland was a homeland to Germans for many centuries, perhaps even millenia with a huge German majority. (And just by the way, even Prague with the first German university ever, still had a 50% German share of the populataion as recently as 100 - 150 years ago). Upon the creation of Czechoslovakia out of Austria after WW1 by the allied victors (against any right of self-determination of the involved Germans and less than only 30 years before) these Germans just had the bad luck, that they were put under Czech rule. The Czechs immediately treated their newly created German minority with as much hostility, as “peace times” would permit, essentially trying to force them out and thus conquer German land and assets (industries). So if anyone had justification for revenge it was the Germans against Czecs, but actually they were treated very humanely, when the power tilted again to the German side during WW2.
The big opportunity to settle things once and for all finally came for the Czechs at the end of WW2, and they made the most of it. They not only managed to get rid of their German minority, they even managed to create the worldwide opnion, that they were justified in doing so, as e.g. your comment clearly shows.

The Czechs were certainly pushing for it, but did not really succeed due to lack of time. To turn one ethny into another takes a long time plus supporting factors and even then will likely remain incomplete. An example is perhaps Alsace Lorraine, which France managed to tear away from Germany a few hundred years ago and which is inhabitated by ethnic Germans (except in some border regions). The French tried to make Frenchmen out of them, but even nowadays the success of that is somewhat questionable.
The Czechs by the way employed similar (but to a lesser extend) policies against their other minorities. This explains perhaps the drive of the Slovaks to dissociate themselves from the Czechs.
Lies. Germany took lands which belonged to it rightfully - either historically or through demographics. That is just. Not artificial nations. What drove the world to war were the jewish bankers who couldn’t stomach a debt-free nation.

The artificial nation of Czechoslovakia didn’t exist before W.W.I and the provinces of Bohemia and Moravia were historically part of the Germany Holy Roman Empire. These were historically German lands.
As to what happens during wartime, once war starts and blood and resources are expended we take EVERYTHING.

I couldn’t get the image of the Lost German Girl out of my mind. Her pain and shame of being a victim of rape is the most powerful image of the end of WW11. I saw another video of this girl sitting on the ground with other people. She was holding something against her swollen and beaten eye. It looked like she smiled a little as some one was using humor to lighten her situation. At the end of the video she may have been lying down on a jeep. The biggest mistake the Axis made was Japan’s not attacking Germany from the east as part of Barbarossa. Russia would have been knocked out of the war before December, 1941, and with the full strength of the Germans available in the West, no Normandy invasion would have been possible.

As long as we’re playing what-ifs, what if Germany and Japan had knocked Russia out of the war by the end of 1941 (a certainty if Japan had taken part in Barbarossa instead of spending 1941 planning Pearl Harbor) and Germany had developed “those bombs” first? With Russia out of the war as of 1941 Germany would have been a much more tranquil setting for research and development. Germany had the V-2s for delivering “those bombs” too, which no one else had.

you are well aware of the proceedings in Germany. Just for the sake of completeness: it was not the German Reich that capitulated, but only the army (Wehrmacht). Apparently due to this fact the German Reich is legally unimpaired, however does not possess any power to enact its will at this time.

Rotterdam is the one everybody trots out for comparison. Right, there, the German bombing killed three-tenths of one percent of the number killed at Dresden (800 died at Rotterdam, 250,000 at Dresden), and the physical destruction of the city of Rotterdam amounted to a couple of percent of the physical destruction inflicted on Dresden. Don’t trot out Malmédy: at the Bulge both sides executed prisoners to an equal extent. The difficulty and desperation of that battle was such that it was impossible to always send captured troops to the rear in a timely way in the heat of battle or spare troops to guard them. Americans shot captured Germans, and Germans shot captured Americans. It was a minor occurrence. Kurt Vonnegut who witnessed the bombing of Dresden as a POW was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and was treated according to the rules of war, sent to the rear, and wound up getting bombed by the Allies in Dresden where he was a POW.
Today only the Germans get mentioned for shooting prisoners because we won the war.
As for the other examples you looked up: they mean nothing individually and I don’t have time to look them all up. In that war the biggest war criminals and perpetrators of atrocities against soldiers and civilians were the Americans, Soviets, and Brits. The armies that did that sort of thing the least were the German armies.
Let’s not even talk about the treatment of the German soldiers after the surrender, several millions of them: one million killed outright by Eisenhower in the first year after the war alone, and it got worse from there. Fourteen million Germans all told were murdered, genocided, by the Americans and Russians after the war’s end. That’s after.

The raw imagery of this footage tells more than words could ever describe, so shocking in it’s depravity. I wanted to extend my hand through the monitor and touch this poor woman to comfort her and reverse what happepend. I hope she went on to heal and live a functional life.
Oh my god, who is that poor woman? I cannot get her out of my mind. I tried so many things to find out what happened to her or to trace her anyhow, but it is not possible.

The Allies forfeited any right to moral superiority when they committed crimes against the Germans of an equal or greater degree than the crimes committed by the Germans themselves. The death of half of a million Germans in the terror Air War, the death of some two million Germans during the flight and expulsion from Eastern Europe and the death of hundreds of thousands of German POWs showed the Allies to be no less morally corrupt than the Germans.
Although we are urged to call World War II ‘the good war’, it was as bad as all wars due in no small part to the revenge-motivated atrocities of the Russian and the other Allies.

How Three Million Germans Died AFTER the War was Over
Why the Germans were ALSO Victims of World War II
The crimes committed AGAINST the Germans by the Allies in WW II were almost as horrendous as those committed
BY the Germans. Five hundred thousand Germans, mainly women, children and old people were victims of the Air War which left European cultural centers such as Dresden a desert of smoldering ruins. The purpose of these bombings was to to terrorize the German civilian home front. Attempts to hinder German war production by bombing were basically unsuccessful.
Another serious crime against the Germans was the treatment of German POWs in open areas along the Rhine. This was primarily an American endeavor. Hundreds of Germans died in these camps due to the lack of cover and adequate food. Germans who tried to throw food and water over the wire were physically threatened.
Certainly ‘die Flucht und Vertreibung’ (flight and expulsion) was a GERMAN holocaust. At least l5 million Germans were
forcibly and brutally expelled from Eastern Germany and Eastern and Southern Europe by Poles, Czechs and Russians. In many cases, they were expelled from areas which had been Prussian and/or German for as long as 800 years (East Prussia). Of the l5 million Germans expelled from their ancestral homes, some 2 million died from mass rape, murder, beatings and starvation on the road to what was left of Germany.
Women and young girls were mass raped from the ages of 8 to 80. Old men and boys who tried to protect them were often
castated and beaten or shot to death. Many of the German women who were raped were killed and, in some cases, nailed
(crucified) to barn doors as documented in Nemmersdorf, East Prussia. (See videos on http://www. youtube.de.)
The Allies’ criminal and ill-conceived decision to deprive Germany of l/4 of her land in the East resulted in some 82 million
residents of ‘rump’ Germany now being crammed into an area the size of Montana. Poland, with a much smaller population, is nearly as big as her western neighbor (nemesis). Within Poland’s borders are the old German provinces of Silesia, half of former East Prussia, West Prussia, Danzig and parts of Brandenburg. Gone are the bastions of German culture such as Koenigsberg,
Breslau, Danzig and Stettin. Stettin is on the WEST side of the Oder but it was still given to the Poles. What German could not help but feel the pain and helplessness of such unfair criminal losses?
Of course, the propaganda is that since the Russians refused to give back the eastern part of Poland which they had taken
in conjunction with the Nazi in l939, Germany was to be deprived of territory in the east to compensate poor Poland. Rarely known is the fact that Poland had taken the land in the East from the Soviet Union back in the 20s when the Soviets were weak.
As early as l920, Lord Curzon, the British Foreign Minister, had proposed that the so-called Curzon Line would be a fair border
for Poland. The present boarder of Poland with Russia is now basically along the Curzon Line so the need to fill the Polish
goose with East German corn was a hypocritical fallacy.
I am an American who served in West Germany twice during the Cold War. I learned about the Flight and Expulsion from Germans who had lost their homes and everything else and had experienced first-hand famine, mass rape and the murder of their loved ones. Even I, an American, who experienced none of this feel compelled to study this great injustice while experiencing deep sorrow, pain and anger. I find it haard to believe that America and its allies sanctioned these crimes against the German people. Yes, there are treaties forced on the Germans so they could achieve unification which recognize the
inappropriate Oder-Neisse Line. But as Abramam Lincoln said, ‘Nothing is settled untdil it is settled fairly. The problem of the flight and expulsion and Germany’s eastern border with Poland will continue to fester until a fair solution is found.
Perhaps Americans could better understand the feelings of millions of German expellees if they could imagine the US losing a war and the victors arbitrarily awarding my home state California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and the great state of Texas to Mexico. If the truth be known, Mexico had a much more valid claim to these states than Poland ever did to Eastern Germany.
Our friends the Brits could better understand if they would allow themselves to imagine the lost of one quarter of their present territory.
One last thought; the German expellees from the very first days formally renounced violence and revenge when it came to reclaiming their homes and property. If they had not done this, can you imagine what the situation might be even now.
Like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, they very might very well might be daily acts of violence between the German expellees and the Poles.
Instead, the German expellees have remained peaceful, but never the less, well aware of the great injustice that was done to them. Someone has said, ‘The greatest loss there is, is the loss of one’s home.’
Dear Friends, If you find the above interesting, I would be grateful if you could do some research about the ‘Flight and Expulsion.’ Ask your German friends and aquaintances if they are from the ‘lost lands’ in the East. Ask them about their experiences at the end of the War. You will be amazed and perhaps shocked by what they went through.
