The number one problem facing the Democratic Party is that, as events of the last week demonstrate, it continues to be plagued by The New Republic Syndrome, one of the most fatal political afflictions that exist. In 2002 and 2003, The New Republic was one of the leading crusaders for an attack on Iraq, railing against what it called “the intellectual incoherence of the liberal war critics.” In a February 2003 Editorial, they decreed that “the United States must disarm Iraq by force” and declared war opponents guilty of “abject pacifism.”

CNN/MSNBC reporter: Corporate executives forced pro-Bush, pro-war narrative

Jessica Yellin — currently a CNN correspondent who covered the White House for ABC News and MSNBC in 2002 and 2003 — was on with Anderson Cooper last night discussing Scott McClellan’s book, and made one of the most significant admissions heard on television in quite some time:

I was going to add this as an update to my prior post on Scott McClellan’s extraordinary description of the media as “deferential, complicit enablers” of Bush administration “propaganda,” but it should really stand on its own. Here is an absolutely amazing link to a video where the three network news anchors appeared jointly on The Today Show this morning and were forced by McClellan’s book to address whether the media failed in its duties in the run-up to the war — the first time, to my knowledge, that this topic has ever been broached by network news journalists (h/t Kitt). The fact that television news has blacked-out the whole issue until now is, by itself, rather amazing.

Une très bonne analyse de Carl Bergeron que j’ai utilisé mois-même. Rien de neuf; c’est un signe typique de la « légitimité négative » tirée de reduction ad hitlerum dont se sert la gauche bien-pensante, à savoir la gauche caviar.

Je suis quelque peu troublé, mais peu surpris je dois l’avouer, par les commentaires haineux qui depuis quelques instants défilent sur le blogue de Patrick Lagacé. Une lectrice, apparemment obsédée par mon cas, m’accuse d’être la réincarnation de la Bête immonde ; selon cette idéologue passionnée, je combinerais en effet dans ma personne la menace du nazisme allemand et celui d’Adrien Arcand. Tous les lecteurs de L’Intelligence conséquente le savent bien : les 40 000 mots de ce site argumenté et intellectuel sont tous imprégnés d’une haine nazie, c’est l’évidence. L’antisémitisme s’étale à chaque page…

Par un effet de contamination typique de la haine médiatique, les autres commentateurs renchérissent en me rattachant aux Bérêts Blancs (hein?), une frange militante de l’Église catholique que j’ignorais complètement jusqu’à ce jour.

Ce délire est d’autant plus prodigieux et révélateur qu’il ne semble pas être désapprouvé par les autorités de Cyberpresse.

New Republic, Left Libertarians, Can’t Face Facts—Ron Paul Letter’s “Scandalous” Assertions (Mostly) True

James Kirchick’s New Republic piece Angry White Man and its later follow-up, uncovered a number of controversial statements on taboo subjects such as urban crime, South Africa, and Martin Luther King from decades-old copies of Ron Paul’s newsletter. The language in the newsletters is sometimes crude and hyperbolic. Ron Paul has denied writing the letters or having much knowledge about their contents. Most everyone is willing to accept that—particularly if they know how things are done in Washington. But this is not a sufficient answer for TNR—or, significantly, for Paul’s libertarian critics.

Muslim outrage at Channel 4 film prompts new inquiry by watchdog

A “distorted” Channel 4 documentary about Muslim extremism that enraged community leaders and resulted in a fruitless police investigation will now be the subject of an Ofcom inquiry. West Midlands Police made a formal complaint over a Channel 4 Dispatches film that participants and race crime prosecutors claim was edited in a misleading manner.

Undercover Mosque, broadcast in January, featured footage shot at a number of mosques, including one at which a preacher praised the Taleban for killing British soldiers. Channel 4 said that the programme revealed how a message of hatred and segregation was being spread by some Islamic preachers.
