Dagmar Barnouw, a USC professor and author whose provocative works about the aftermath of World War II took aim at what she called the sanctification of Holocaust survivors, the “politics of not-forgetting Nazi evil” and the idea of collective German guilt, has died. She was 72.

Gore Vidal on Jew-Tool Buckley

March 22, 2008 on 8:14 am | Friedrich Braun | Conservatism , Jewish Diaspora , Obituaries , The American Right , The Jewish Question | No Comments | Email This Post | Print this Post

I remember reading in the early ’90s Buckley’s pathetic screed in his outfit the National Review on the alleged anti-Semitism of the Old Right; particularly, Buchanan, Sobran, etc. in which he even accused his own late father of being an anti-Semite…and I asked myself the question: what kind of a man would hurl such accusations at his own late father in order to further ingratiate himself with American Jewry? Buckley was a little despicable worm. A first-rate boot-licker and a spineless coward.

I can recall that day in the 1930s when a “news” (sic) magazine appeared in Washington, D.C.; it was called Newsweek: meant to be a counterbalance to Time Magazine’s uncontrollable malice. In due course the two became sadly alike as Vincent Astor morphed into Henry Luce: Was it something in the water? I once asked Henry Luce why he called Time a news magazine when it was simply Uncle Harry’s means of venting his rage (this was 1960 or so) at liberals, and “degenerate art” like the plays of Tennessee Williams—he had no answer. At Newsweek Vincent Astor was far too stupid to answer any such complaint. Now here we are in the Newsweek of 2008, and it’s still lousy. There have been a few decent writers in between that were less nutty than today’s Newsweek hacks.

In Memoriam: Dr Erich Kaestner (1900-2008)

January 26, 2008 on 3:14 pm | Friedrich Braun | Obituaries | No Comments | Email This Post | Print this Post

A discreet announcement made its way into the pages of the Hannoverische Allgemeine earlier this month. It marked the end of an era, but it passed largely unobserved.

It was a death notice for a man called Dr. Erich Kästner, and he may well have been the last remaining survivor of the German Imperial army of the First World War. Dr. Kästner served on the Western Front in 1918, the last year of the war. He was 107 years of age.

While he just outlived 2007, Dr. Kästner did not outlive Louis de Cazenave, the French Great War veteran who died last Sunday aged 110. De Cazenave’s death, marked in news reports, obituaries and a statement from President Sarkozy, leaves just one surviving French veteran.

But the death of his German counterpart was not so marked. There was no comment from Chancellor Angela Merkel on his death, and on the sacrifices of the millions of young men like him who did not survive. No television pictures of him, bent with age, and the weight of a great number of medals.

Indeed it is impossible to know for sure that he was the last remaining survivor of the Great War because Germany has no official records of its veterans from the two World Wars. Germany’s losses in the Great War were extraordinary. It is thought to have lost more men in World War One than any other nation and more than twice those of the UK (whose own staggering casualty figures stand at almost 900,000).

Erich Kastner’s sacrifice, his courage, and his devotion to his Fatherland have been rewarded with silence and contempt by the nation he served. But if the Germans don’t remember, then we do.

Und Ihr habt doch gesiegt, Kamerad.

IAN SMITH DIES AT 88

November 20, 2007 on 10:31 pm | Friedrich Braun | Obituaries | No Comments | Email This Post | Print this Post

LONDON (Reuters) - The former leader of white-ruled Rhodesia, Ian Smith, has died in South Africa aged 88, the British Broadcasting Corporation reported on its website on Tuesday.

Smith defied the world in 1965 when he led a quarter of a million white Rhodesians in a unilateral declaration of independence from Britain rather than accept proposals for black-majority rule.

He remained prime minister until a guerrilla war forced him to accept a ceasefire and political settlement in 1979.

Elections were held the following year, when Rhodesia became the black-ruled republic of Zimbabwe, with Robert Mugabe as prime minister.

Smith remained vocal in opposition to Mugabe, even after the parliamentary seats reserved for whites were abolished in 1987.

It was not immediately possible to confirm the report of Smith’s death independently.

Florentine Rost Van Tonningen Passes Away At 92

March 26, 2007 on 10:16 pm | Friedrich Braun | National Socialism , Obituaries | No Comments | Email This Post | Print this Post

Florrie Rost van Tonningen, tireless pro-White activist, writer and propagandst, has passed away at the age of 92 in Belgium .

Florrie was married to Meinoud, the second highest ranking member of the Dutch National Socialist Bund in the Netherlands during World War II, who was murdered while being kept prisoner by the Allies at the end of World War II.

Florrie herself was subjected to the most brutal torture while in detention, but it never failed to break her will or her dedication to pro-White causes the world over. The democratic government of post war Netherlands convicted her several times of “racism”, making “anti-Semitic remarks in her memoirs” and for daring to hold private meetings in her home. As recently as 2000 she discussed the value of having “white skin” in a television interview.

Media link and a paper on her husband, Dr. M.M. Rost van Tonningen, presented by Florrie at the Instute for Historical Review.

French thinker Baudrillard dies

I haven’t read Baudrillard, the eccentric Wachowski brothers seem to be huge fans but I was struck by the following thoughts which I also share:

While terrorists had committed the atrocity, he wrote: “It is we who have wanted it. Terrorism is immoral, and it responds to a globalisation that is itself immoral.”

French sociologist and philosopher Jean Baudrillard has died aged 77 at his home in Paris following a long illness.

AMERICA AFTER ANNA NICOLE

by Joe Sobran

After long study, I’ve concluded that our leaders are not necessarily trying to be funny. But you are entitled to draw your own conclusions. All I really know is what I see on the cable news channels. This was my only contact with the outside world for several days recently, when my furnace was dead and I was forced to check into the Bates Motel (now under new management).
